The bagpipes loved the little girl
O skirly, whirly, twirly, sklirl
He hoped that he could catch her eye
As she went traipsing merrily by
She barely slowed, and so he sighed,
O skirly, whirly, sklirl
’twas lonely waiting to be seen
O skirly, whirly, twirly, skleen
The blue-eyed girl was now long gone
Off in the distance he could hear the song
Of bagpipes playing nrrrnn nrrrnn nhawn
O skirly, whirly, skleen
But who should now come into view?
O skirly, whirly, twirly, sklooo
The little girl tugging her mother’s hand,
“Mama, I want to be in the band!
To play these pipes would be so grand!”
O skirly, whirly, skloo0
She picked him up, nestling him dear
O skirly, whirly, twirly, skleeer
“Please, can I take this home with me?”
Mom started to say, “Let’s wait. We’ll see.”
But didn’t. She heard the lassie’s plea.
O skirly, whirly, skleeer
And now the rest is history
O skirly, whirly, twirly, skleee
Each is the other’s sole desire
Scotland the Brave, Mull of Kintyre
Making music all day — a girl-bagpipe choir
O skirly, whirly, skleee
This is in response to the W3 prompt this week: Write a nonsense poem with at least one invented word of your own.
This is lovely. I like the nonsense words. Great sounds for reading!
Thanks, Colleen. I wondered if they qualified as nonsense words because they’re more just phonetic sounds, you know?
I didn’t feel like they were nonsense. They felt like phonetic sounds to me, as well. I think you’re very clever using sound in your poem. I’d love to hear how it all sounds.
I think this is the best one I’ve read! This is fantastic.
Aw — thank you so much! This is what comes of spending a day at Highland games.
Aw! That sounds amazing.
I love the way you spelled out the sounds of the bagpipes playing.🎶
Thank you. They are a hard sound to describe!
This is utterly adorable!
much love,
David
Thanks, David!

Was the last time that you
Heard bagpipes — whooo!
It’s been too long!
Go hear their song!
bobby aldridge has a claymore sword too. 1996
Did you know that bagpipes used to be classified as a weapon of war, right along with swords and munitions. True story.
to play outlawed songs. dan s bday language of love and leader of the band run for the roses too
I love the viewpoint from the bagpipes, along with his ‘voice’ 💞💞💞
The bagpipes and the skirly tale,
A twirly twist that did prevail,
Seeking love with a skleenly grin,
Onward they danced, a merry spin,
Skloooing dreams, the notes set sail,
O skirly, whirly, sklirl.
A mother’s heart and girl so keen,
Skloo0ed up the sound, a novel scene,
A skleeer and her wish fulfilled,
In bagpipe’s arms, their hearts distilled,
Skleeeing joy where once they’d been,
O skirly, whirly, skleen.
Thе skirly, whirly, and twirly sounds dancеd off thе pagе, bringing to lifе a hеartwarming еncountеr that lеd to a harmonious partnеrship. Your imaginativе crеation bеautifully capturеs thе еssеncе of unеxpеctеd connеctions and thе joy thеy bring. 👍👏👌😊🙏
I LOVE it!! Thanks so much for your contribution to my little love-story!
BAGPIPES—A LOVE STORY is utterly delightful.
“ ’twas lonely waiting to be seen

Off in the distance he could hear the song
Of bagpipes playing nrrrnn nrrrnn nhawn

To me, this poem is a wonderful folk song. I can smell the heather and breathe the pure highland air in this bagpipe air. I LOVE BAGPIPES! Your enchanting little girl presented your poem magnificently.
Thanks Sally 💕
That’s my granddaughter. She LOVES bagpipes. We spent the day Saturday at a Highland Games and she just can’t get enough.
Thanks for your kind words about my poem.
Hoots mon, you are very welcome 💕
Very cute!
Really beautifully written,
Thank you — both for reading and for commenting!
