Gentle rill
Steady Stream
Come — they will
Some yawning
Some to swim
Some to lift
In the gym
They come here
Start their day
In the most
Healthy way
Surge has passed
Quiet, still —
Then more come —
Gentle rill

This describes my mornings at the front desk at the gym.
Very inspiring poem.

Oh, to clean and jerk
And lift like him
Lovely! I love the repeat of the gentle rill…cocoons the rest somehow 💞💞💞
Bookending things somehow feels like completion. I love the idea of cocooning — hadn’t thought of it that way.
It’s just the feeling I got when reading it through each time 💞💞💞
I looked up “rill…” what a lovely word and so perfect with your verse. I’m with you… 5:30 am is too early! 💕
I’m not sure if you’re American or not, but I first learned the “rill” in “My Country, ‘tis of Thee”. It’s in one of the later verses — “I love thy rocks and rills, thy woods and templed hills”
I am American, but didn’t know the word, “rill” was so beautifully portrayed in My Country, ’tis of Thee. Thanks for sharing that bit of knowledge. I appreciate it.
I used to go to a gym before life got busy and the budget got tighter. Lol! Now, I try to work out at home, walk the neighborhood, and swim/walk at the beach. Great poem, Sally!

It’s funny — I work AT the gym but I don’t often work OUT at the gym. Like you, I’m a walker and a swimmer. Yesterday, though, I worked out in the weight room. I’m a little sore today but it felt really good.
5:30 am – I wish I could sleep that late. 😊 Beautiful!
I admire those who can get their workouts done early. They can relax the rest of the day without guilt.
Sally, this is delightful, and you taught me a new word! I’d never heard of a “rill” before!
Thanks 🙂
David
Swimming for me, but I prefer the evening.
