I grew up in this old famhouse. Here
I stumble over memories
Stub my toe on them even
Sorting is quite daunting
This house is haunting
Daily I try
To get one
More box

This is my response to TWO prompts!
The JusJoJan prompt for the day is stumble.
The W3 prompt is: Write a Nonet about the new year — 2026. How does this year feel to you so far? Are you hopeful, uncertain, energized, reflective? Have you set any goals or intentions? Are there resolutions you’re excited (or nervous) about? My goal for the new year is to wrap up dealing with my parents’ estate.
Sally, I love this and can relate to it completely. ❤️
Sorting through a life. Wonderful poetry.
I love the photo and the poem…. Didn’t you write about this wonderful house and your freedom before 😁😁
Wonderful poem Sally – i know this feeling so well 🩷
Wow. This poem is wonderful Sally! Yes, sorting through an accumulation of a lifetime is daunting….
Lovely and so relatable
I love these lines!
I stumble over memories
Stub my toe on them even
Sorting through an estate comes with a roller coaster of emotions and you capture that here. Nice write.
I love the way you express stubbing your toe on memories. Beautifully written nonet.
Having just moved again, I have promised myself to not leave a life full of boxes for whoever I leave behind. I have a whole bin of pictures that I want to get on the computer so that they don’t have to be carried around anymore. It just seems like life makes you collect stuff!
The image of stumbling over memories feels painfully real to me, Sally. Ending on “one more box” captures that tired, human persistence.

hi, Sally❣️
Just a quick note to let you know that this week’s W3, hosted by our beloved Nolcha, is live and open until Monday:
https://skepticskaddish.com/2026/01/14/w3-prompt-194-weave-written-weekly/
Sorry for the delayed notice — I’m starting a new job tomorrow and was solo-parenting for two weeks, so things got a bit hectic.
Much love,
David
